Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Neoclassical giltwood mirrors from the 19th century are defined by their architectural symmetry and classical motifs inspired by ancient Greek and Roman design. Common elements include urn finials, palmettes, ribbon swags, and fluted columns framing the glass panels.

These pieces were typically constructed from carved softwood or pine covered with gesso and gold leaf. Intricate decorative details were often formed using composition moulded over wire armatures, housing hand-blown or early plate mirror glass.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age such as natural wear to the gilding showing red or grey bole beneath, mercury glass oxidation or foxing, wooden backboards with hand-cut nails, and occasionally maker stamps or paper labels on the reverse.

A large gilded mirror functions as a focal point in entryways, reception rooms, or dining halls. It can be mounted above a minimalist console table or rested on a reinforced floor surface to reflect light and expand spatial perception.

Gilt frames should be dusted gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush. Water or chemical cleaners must never be applied directly to gilded gesso, as moisture can dissolve the water-gilding glue layer; glass cleaner should be applied sparingly to a microfibre cloth rather than sprayed onto the mirror plate.
