A highly decorative 19th century (circa 1830) hardwood Zanzibar traders chest with brass stud and metalwork decoration. The top consists of brass stud and metalwork decoration with applied moulding to the outer edge leading down to a moulded edge with brass studs and metalwork, the top having two large brass hinges and opening to reveal a candle box and good storage space.The highly decorative front profusely covered with brass stud and brass metalwork designs with a highly decorative large brass and pierced central lock plate (not lockable). This leads down to three drawers also decorated with brass studs and metalwork, all with brass handles.Each side of the chest having a large brass carrying handle, the chest is supported by two carved paw feet to the front and block feet to back.
