Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Fold-over card tables were designed during the 18th and 19th centuries as portable, multi-functional furniture for social drawing rooms. When closed, they served as decorative console tables against a wall, and when swiveled and opened, they provided a square playing surface for card and board games.

Primary woods included solid mahogany or rosewood veneers, often paired with brass hardware such as castors and hinges. The interior playing surfaces were frequently lined with baize or felt to protect game pieces and cards.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints in the internal storage well, original brass castors, and natural age-related wear or oxidisation on unexposed timber underneath. The swivel mechanism usually displays hand-forged iron or early cast brass hinges.

Position the table folded against a wall in a hallway or living space to function as a compact console table topped with modern ceramics or lamps. It can also be opened during social gatherings to provide additional surface space or interactive seating.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing gently along the wood grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and moisture to prevent wood movement and finish degradation.
