The shelves are held in place with pegs, as well as back slats making this a sturdy piece.
From the early 1900s Liberty & Co began to sell its own range of Arts and Crafts furniture manufactured in commercial workshops. The ‘Sedley’ as this portable oak bookcase was known was a product of this home-grown arts and crafts furniture, a 4 tier version of which is illustrated in their 1907 Yuletide Gifts catalogue.
