Victorian Coromandel & Silver Travelling Box

Description

A fine quality and immaculate mid Victorian coromandel traveling box with original fitted interior and silver topped crystal jars, hallmarked London 1872. The polished figured coromandel veneered exterior with brass stringing and crossbanding, the edges bound in brass; cartouche to the centre of the lid and barrel lock escutcheon. The hinged lid opening to reveal a superb original fitted interior, engraved brass inserts to the internal edges, button to the side to release a drawer to the right side and a second button to the back to release a compartment to the front. Ruched velvet lined interior to the lid with mirror set behind and fold down leather letter envelope. The dark blue leather lined interior with leather covered divisions, twin velvet pads set to the sides with scissors and various dressing tools. Twelve matching cut crystal jars with engraved heavy quality solid silver tops including scents, soap boxes and powder jars. The side drawer with matching blue leather lining, the base compartment with leather writing surface and velvet lined jewellery compartment concealed below. The silver ware bearing the makers mark for London silversmith Thomas Wheeler, specialist jar maker along with clear hallmarks to all sections. The finest quality presented in virtually unused and complete condition with a rich polish. Working Bramah lock and key. Keep up to date via Instagram - sturmansantiques.
