Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian kneehole desk is a compact writing table introduced during the 18th century, featuring a recessed central cupboard flanked by short drawers on either side. Designed for versatile use as both a writing workstation and a dressing table, it represents a classic staple of 18th-century English cabinet making.

Georgian cabinet makers typically utilised solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany, frequently applying flame mahogany veneers to front drawer faces for decorative grain patterns. Secondary timbers such as pine or oak were used for internal drawer construction, fitted with cast brass handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic Georgian desks feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, hand-planed secondary timber backings, and cast brass fittings displaying natural patination. In addition, examine locks and construction marks for hand-forged iron or brass components typical of pre-industrial cabinet making.

Position the desk against a feature wall or near natural light in a study or hallway to serve as a functional workstation. Pair the piece with a contemporary desk lamp and neutral decorative accents to balance the rich tone of the dark mahogany wood.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish periodically to maintain the timber finish. Keep the desk clear of direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying, veneer separation, or colour fading.
