This is a very rare opportunity to purchase an outstanding fine example of a triple fusee Musical bracket clock which plays Westminster Chimes or on 8 bells. The clock is of massive grand proportions and stands 75 cm high making it an extremely impressive piece. The case incorporates some exquisite ormolu mounts which set the clock of stunningly.
This is an exceptional clock not only in terms of the case but also with regards to the stunning movement. The gilding to the ormolu mounts is in lovely original condition
The ebonised case has a lovely arch top which is finished with five exceptionally detailed pineapple ormolu finials and to the front of the arched section is a further decorative ormolu mount. As you move down the door to access the dial is complete with it''s lock and key which is fully working. The key hole also has a lovely ormolu escutcheon. The door itself has the glass framed on a silvered mount and there are two ormolu spandrels to the corners ab...ove the arch of the glass. The door is then flanked by gilded Corinthian pillars.
The dial is a work of art in it''s own right with exquisite spandrels to the corners and to the arch. the centre of the dial has the three winding holes and is nicely patterned whilst the arch contains the three subsidiary dials. One is the CHIME / SILENT facility which allows the chimes to be switched off if required and the second is the FAST / SLOW which allows the time to be regulated and the third is for the chime selection, which is Westminster chime on four bells, or it can chime on 8 bells.
The 8-day duration triple chain fusee movement chimes the quarters on a nest of bells, and strikes the hours on a large mellow gong. The dial is covered with glass which is in perfect condition. The door is flanked by superb carved columns. To the base has lovely reeded detailing and a further pretty ormolu mount. The clock is then raise on brass ball feet.
To the sides are superb fretted and detailed ormolu panels lined in red fabric.
The case is in lovely condition. It is very difficult to convey through photographs the level of fantastic workmanship which has gone into this clock.
The movement is access via a door to the rear which is opened via a lock and key which are both present and working, This also has a lovely brass fretted panel which is lined in red fabric. The movement is stamped ''1090''. The clock also has a lovely feature of a travelling nut which allows the pendulum to be held in place when moving the clock.
The clock has just been professionally cleaned and serviced and as such is immaculately clean and happily ticking and chiming away and keeping good time. In addition this clock comes complete with it''s winding key, the two keys open the front and back back door and pendulum.
