They stand on turned and fluted legs. With good upholstery, solid and sturdy and in good original condition. With original paper label underneath to one of the chairs which reads “John Manuel & Son Manufacturers Devonshire Cabinet Works Upholstery, Carpet, Brass and Iron bedstead Warehouse, Sheffield.”
John Manuel founded his cabinet and upholstery firm at 87 Devonshire Street, Sheffield in 1845 and in 1861 the company became John Manuel and Son. The firm was a leading furniture maker of the mid to late 19th century with important patrons such as the Archbishop of York, the duke of Norfolk and the duke of Portland. Significant, works included furniture for Sir John Brown at Endcliffe Hall, the Countess of Radnor and Lord Bradford of Weston Park, Staffordshire.

Good original condition. Beautiful warm colour and patina. Solid frames. Wear and marks commensurate with age. Upholstery is in good condition (A few small marks to the fabric in places). One of the small carved spikes to the top of the legs is missing on one of the chairs.
