Pair of 19th C Brass Fire Dogs

Description

A Pair of 19th Century Brass Fire Dogs.

Each with a spreading reed, and beaded finial, over a stem, with a square cap, mounted to each side with a spreading reed paterae, as per the finial. The Wyvern twist columns sitting within an arcaded collar and thence an outward tapering reeded base, repeated to the underside of the arch and finished again with a reeded and beaded finial. The arched legs with chamfered edges, sweeping to a rounded toe. The tool rests and rear leg likewise chamfered, with the rear leg finished with a reed and beaded finial, and reeded paterae to each side.

The whole with a very good patination.

Date circa 1870.
