Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A gateleg table features hinged drop leaves supported by pivoting legs that swing outwards to expand the tabletop surface area. Originating in the sixteenth century, this functional design remains popular for flexible dining spaces.

Traditional French gateleg tables are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as oak, fruitwood, chestnut, or walnut. Decorative central panels often feature timber marquetry or contrasting wood inlays.

Authentic pieces display traditional joinery methods including mortise and tenon joints, wooden securing pegs, and hand-turned leg profiles. Wear patterns on foot stretchers and authentic rule joints along the drop leaves also indicate historic construction.

A gateleg dining table can be placed centrally in an open-plan kitchen or dining area paired with timber or upholstered seating. When collapsed, it functions as a compact console table against a wall.

Maintain the timber by keeping the table away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent warping. Regular application of clear beeswax along the wood grain protects the natural finish and retains moisture balance.
