Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the reign of King Edward VII between 1901 and 1910, Edwardian silver boxes are decorative containers crafted in sterling silver. They frequently feature repousse or chased decoration and were designed for use on vanity tables, desks, or dressers to store small personal items.

These boxes were constructed from solid sterling silver containing 92.5 percent silver content. Surface ornamentation was traditionally achieved using repousse techniques, where metal is hammered from the reverse side to create relief motifs, often finished with hand chasing.

Authentic British silver items carry a set of official hallmarks stamped into the metal. These include the makers mark, the assay office mark such as the anchor for Birmingham, the lion passant indicating sterling purity, and a specific date letter corresponding to the year 1904.

An antique silver box functions effectively as a functional decorative piece on a bedside table, desk, or dressing counter. Positioned alongside textured surfaces such as dark timber, marble, or leather, the metallic finish provides visual contrast.

Sterling silver should be wiped with a soft, non-abrasive cloth and polished using specialised silver cleaner to remove surface tarnish without scratching the metal. Storing the piece in a dry, low-humidity environment minimizes oxidisation over time.
