Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Claret jugs gained widespread popularity in nineteenth-century Britain specifically for serving red wines imported from Bordeaux, locally referred to as claret. They feature a glass or crystal vessel fitted with a silver spout, lid, and handle.

Traditional claret jugs are constructed from blown or hand-cut lead crystal glass paired with sterling silver or silver-plated neck mounts, spouts, and handles.

Authentic period examples feature maker stampings or hallmarks on the silver collar, deep wheel-cut or hand-cut geometric patterns in the glass body, and period-appropriate joinery connecting the handle to the mount.

A claret jug serves as an elegant centrepiece when positioned on a dining table, wooden sideboard, or drinks trolley alongside contemporary crystal glassware.

Rinse the interior using warm water and mild soap while avoiding harsh abrasives. The silver mounts should be polished gently using a specialised silver cloth to prevent tarnish.
