Oval giltwood mirrors from this era typically feature hand-carved timber frames coated with gesso and covered in thin gold leaf. They often display classical motifs such as acanthus leaves, cresting, beaded inner borders, and floral garlands.

Craftsmen carved the structural frame from timber, applied layers of gesso to create a smooth substrate, and painted a clay base called bole before laying down gold leaf. Water gilding or oil gilding techniques were then used to achieve varied burnished finishes.
