Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Darvel Windsor chair is a distinct regional variation of the traditional Windsor chair, made in and around the town of Darvel in Ayrshire, Scotland, during the nineteenth century. These chairs are defined by their comb-back design, tall proportions, and socketed leg construction joined directly to a shaped solid wooden seat.

Scottish Windsor chairs were typically constructed using locally sourced native hardwoods, most commonly elm for the carved saddle seat due to its split-resistant grain, and ash or beech for the steam-bent bows, turned legs, and vertical spindles.

Authentic period Windsor chairs feature through-tenon joints where the legs pass completely through the seat and are secured with wedges. Look for hand-planed surfaces, subtle variations in spindle thickness, natural wear to the stretcher rails, and original patination around the armrests.

A high-back Windsor chair functions well as a singular statement accent chair beside a fireplace, within a reading corner, or placed in an entryway. Pairing dark or warm timber tones with natural stone, linen textiles, or neutral walls helps highlight the architectural silhouette of the spindles.

Keep wooden chairs away from direct heat sources such as radiators to prevent timber shrinkage and joint loosening. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood and maintain the patinated surface.
