Late Victorian early Edwardian no heat spinel and diamond twist ring, set with an oval natural spinel alongside 14 old cut diamonds, totalling about 0.4cts very pretty and beautifully made and in fabulous antique condition stamped for 18ct gold inside and far lovelier than the images show. Red spinels are the rarest and most valuable of the spinel family, the famous ''Black Prince''s Ruby'' in the Imperial State Crown is one of the most famous spinels, and it was mistaken for a ruby as all spinels were mistaken for rubies until identification of gems occurred with the development of scientific equipment to assist in gem identification. Gem-quality red spinels are considered rare, even rarer than rubies and sapphires of similar quality and colour so a true investment piece and a beautiful antique ring with lovely old European cut diamonds surrounding the spinel. M 1/2 but can be sized and posted out for the listed price. 3.1gms.
