Antique Silver Trinket Box Hallmarked Birmingham 1919 Henry Williamson Ltd

1900 - 1920
Description

An elegantly proportioned solid silver trinket box. The body is a plain polished silver and stands on four plain feet. The lid is decorated with a striped engine turned pattern and has a vacant oval cartouche in the centre. It opens and closes perfectly and when opened reveals a beige velvet interior.

Clear hallmarks are visible on the underneath for the Birmingham Assay office with a date mark for 1919 and Lion Passant indicating sterling silver. The maker's mark is also visible for the silver maker: Henry Williamson Ltd, with partial marks visible on the lip of the lid.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early 20th-century silver dressing table boxes, particularly from the Edwardian and early George V eras, often feature engine-turned geometric engraving, delicate cabriole feet, and plush fabric linings to store small jewellery pieces.

These boxes were constructed from sterling silver, hallmarked at official assay offices to confirm metal purity, and were frequently fitted with velvet or silk linings alongside steel hinge pins for structural integrity.

Authenticity is verified by checking official British assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant for sterling silver, the specific town mark, the date letter corresponding to 1919, and the makers mark initials.

Place the box on a bedroom dressing table, bedside table, or vanity tray to hold daily jewellery while adding tailored metallic highlights to contemporary room schemes.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and applying specialized silver polish sparingly, ensuring liquid does not seep into the hinge mechanism or internal linings.
