Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sorrento inlaid tables originated in Sorrento, Italy, during the 19th century as popular Grand Tour souvenirs. Craftspeople used intricate wood marquetry and parquetry techniques, often depicting classical themes, geometric borders, or regional figures.

These pieces were typically constructed using walnut as the core timber, embellished with micro-marquetry veneers made from native hardwoods, olive wood, and fruitwoods. Craftspeople hand-cut and pieced together minute wooden elements to form detailed central motifs and concentric decorative borders.

Authentic 19th-century Sorrento craftsmanship displays hand-cut marquetry with natural variations in wood grain, age-related shrinkage lines, and traditional joinery on the central column and base. Look for fine geometric borders surrounding hand-worked central scenes without modern laser-cut precision.

Place the table as a focal accent in an entry hall, bay window, or reading alcove to showcase its decorative top. Combining the detailed wood inlay with neutral modern upholstery creates a balanced juxtaposition between period craftsmanship and contemporary decor.

Keep the table positioned away from direct heat sources and harsh sunlight to prevent wood veneers from lifting or bleaching. Dust regularly using a soft microfibre cloth and occasionally apply a light coat of natural beeswax paste polish to protect the timber surface.
