Description

Richardson’s Bronze glass vase with cracked surface referred to as ‘Brain’ glass. Designed in 1878.

Rim dia: 6 cm

Body dia: 10cm.

Base dia: 6 cm.

Condition: Very good. A very nice example with good iridescence.

Richardson’s Bronze glass vase with cracked surface referred to as ‘Brain’ glass. Designed in 1878. The crackling effect was achieved by dipping the the glass into cold water, reheating and blowing to the desire shape. And then submitting it to the iridescent process (exposing the finished article whilst extremely hot to fumes generated by placing cloride of tin or mixed with nitrates of barium and strontium upon a hot surface thus exposing the item to the fumes.
