Both portraits are inscribed verso. The female portrait is inscribed ''Barbara Avery[?], born at .... Chesterfield Feb-6-1816. Died April 18 1846[?]''. The male portrait''s inscription has had a small area cut off. The legible parts read; ''William Avery[?]. Born Dec 6 18.... Died Dec 7 ....''.
Both portraits remain in a very good condition throughout.
