Technical Description
An 18th century facet cut wine glass dating to c1750 with a special story to tell.

Comments
This glass would have started life as a large plain stem wine glass and was made in c1750.
Sometime later, perhaps 20 years later, someone came along and decided that the glass was a very fine example with a large bowl holding x2 the volume of a standard wine glass. The later 18th century was all about glittering candlelight and facet drinking glasses and table ware was the height of fashion.
So, the glass was taken to the cutter who did an exceptional job in both the design and workmanship. At the same time or perhaps slightly later, but still in the 18th century, the glass was engraved with the hops and barley, again to the highest standard.
Very unusual engraving for what is normally seen as a wine glass form, but the bowl holds exactly the same volume as an Ale glass from that era, so why not re use it?
We find it very personal, perhaps a favourite glass for the evening tipple being recycled into a high fashion ale glass, with a twist.
