We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Georgian era, large copper jugs served as essential domestic vessels for holding and transporting water, ale, or cider. Crafted before modern mass production, these items reflect the utilitarian copperware manufacturing techniques of 18th and early 19th-century Britain.

Antique copper jugs were constructed from heavy-gauge sheet copper that was hand-hammered into shape. The seams were joined using hard brazing or dovetailing techniques, and the interior was lined with tin to prevent chemical reactions between copper and consumable liquids.

Authentic Georgian copper vessels typically feature visible hand-brazed or dovetailed construction seams along the body or base, a hand-hammered surface texture, heavy weight, and copper rivets securing the handle. Traces of historical tin lining and natural oxidisation on unpolished surfaces are also key indicators.

A large copper jug works well as a focal accent on a kitchen island, dining sideboard, or rustic mantelpiece. It can be displayed as a standalone decorative piece or used as a floral vase to hold dried foliage and branches.

Clean the exterior with a soft cloth and warm soapy water, avoiding abrasive pads that scratch the metal. If a polished finish is desired, use a specialised copper cleaner, or apply microcrystalline wax to preserve the existing patina and protect against oxidisation.
