Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian tilt-top tripod table is an 18th-century occasional table characterized by a circular top mounted on a hinge mechanism. This mechanism allows the top to tilt vertically when not in use, enabling the table to be stored flush against a wall to conserve room space.

These tables were predominantly crafted from solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany, valued for its dense grain and durability. Construction typically involved a turned central stem supported by three hand-dovetailed cabriole legs, secured with a brass catch or wooden tilt block.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the underside of the tripod legs, original iron or brass tilt latches, and subtle hand-planing marks on the timber. The underside of the wood often exhibits natural dark patination and shrinkage consistent with age.

A tilt-top table functions as a flexible side table beside a sofa or armchair, or positioned in an empty alcove. The top can be left flat to hold lamps and books, or tilted vertically against a wall to display the natural grain of the timber as a decorative background feature.

Maintain the timber surface by regularly dusting with a dry, soft cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage, cracking, or uneven fading of the natural finish.
