Originating in the 18th century, Louis XV style console tables are characterised by curvilinear forms, Rococo carved motifs, slender cabriole legs, and fitted marble tops designed to stand against a wall.

These tables are traditionally constructed from hand-carved wood frames coated in gesso and finished with gold leaf gilding, topped with shaped marble slabs such as Breche or Carrara.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved joinery on the underside, layers of red or grey clay bolus beneath worn gilding, and hand-chiseled surfaces on the reverse of the marble top.
