We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

High Victorian sideboards from the mid-to-late nineteenth century are defined by their substantial proportions, dramatic silhouettes, and ornate carved embellishments. They frequently incorporate large mirrored backboards framed with naturalistic motifs, designed to amplify light in dining rooms.

These sideboards were primarily constructed from solid pine or oak carcases veneered with highly figured woods such as flame mahogany or walnut. Mirrors were typically crafted from thick plate glass with silvered backings, accented with hand-carved timber foliage.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawers, original cast brass hardware or timber lock escutcheons, and irregular grain pattern variations in the veneer. The backboards of original mirrors often display expected silvering oxidation and secondary wood panelling.

A large mahogany sideboard serves as an effective anchor piece in dining rooms, wide hallways, or open-plan living areas. Positioning the piece against contemporary painted backdrops creates an architectural focal point while offering functional storage.

Clean timber surfaces by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice yearly following the direction of the grain. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer movement or fading.
