This fine Bronze bust crafted by one of the most sort after and highly acclaimed sculptors of the late 19th century Emmanuel Villanis is exceptional, well known for his Bronze busts of beautiful young women often from literature and mythology, this particular bust of Saida who's name features prominently on the base as was a recognised trademark of Villanis is a superb example, multi hued patination and mounted on polished Marble, she is gazing into the distance with her hair loose around her face and held back with a headscarf she looks wistfully into the distance, the detailing is superb down to the designs on her necklace.

Signed to the rear and featuring the Society des Bronzes de Paris foundry stamp.

Emmanuel Villanis (b. 1858 d. 1914). Originally from Lille, France and of Italian descent, the artist studied in Turin at the Accademia Albertina, under master sculptor Odoardo Tabacchi, before settling in Paris in 1885. A prolific producer of busts during his career, he enjoyed international acclaim for his work. He had a penchant for producing bronzes particularly busts mainly in the Art Nouveau style. During his lifetime he exhibited widely in Paris, Milan, Chicago, New York and Vienna, his bronzes are both beautiful and highly desirable to collectors world wide.
