Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian chest on chest, also known as a tallboy, is an 18th-century double chest of drawers constructed in two separate sections to facilitate movement. Designed primarily during the George II and George III eras, these pieces combine ample vertical storage with balanced Classical architecture and proportions.

Primary woods were predominantly flame mahogany, walnut, or oak, chosen for their grain structure and durability. Secondary woods used for drawer linings and backboards usually consisted of pine or native oak, assembled with hand-cut dovetail joints and brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and natural shrinkage cracks in wide panels. Cast brass swan-neck or batwing handles often leave subtle shadow outlines or wear marks on the original drawer faces.

Position a mahogany chest on chest against a neutral or dark painted wall to highlight its timber silhouette. Contrast its historic scale with modern floor lighting, abstract framed art, or contemporary ceramic vessels nearby.

Maintain the finish by applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year using a soft cotton cloth. Position the furniture away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer lifting.
