Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pier mirror is a tall, narrow mirror originally designed to hang on the wall space between two windows or above a console table. Popularised in 18th and 19th-century French interiors, these mirrors served to reflect natural light into deeper areas of a room.

Traditional French mirrors feature timber backing frames finished with gesso, gold leaf, or brass mouldings. The mirror plates were historically silvered using mercury or silver nitrate, which oxidises over time to produce characteristic foxing and distress.

Authentic period pieces often exhibit genuine silvering loss, dark spots, and uneven distressing on the glass plate that cannot be easily replicated by modern artificial techniques. Examining the back reveals hand-cut timber panels, historical fixings, and natural wood oxidation.

Position a tall pier mirror mounted or leaning against a neutral wall in a hallway or dining area to create visual height and maximize light reflection. Pairing the warm gilt frame with contemporary minimalist furniture creates an appealing contrast between historical texture and clean lines.

Clean the glass using a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth lightly dampened with distilled water, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or excess moisture near the frame edges. Dust the gilt frame gently with a dry, soft-bristled brush to prevent flaking or damaging the delicate finish.
