Art Deco French Spelter Dog Bookends C1930

1920 - 1940
Description

A pair of French Art Deco era bookends c1930. The bookends feature a pair of hounds or dogs, possibly large spaniels or setters, modelled in spelter, a metal alloy favoured by Continental sculptors as more economical than bronze. The dogs have a bronzed shiny finish, slightly gilded in places, and stand on dark grey veined marble bases. They are in excellent condition.
