Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A brass footman is a freestanding metal trivet or low table designed to sit on a hearth in front of an open fire. Originating in the 18th century, it was used to keep kettles, dishes, or flatirons warm near the embers.

Footmen were predominantly constructed from sheet brass, cast brass, and wrought iron. Heavy brass tops were often paired with cast cabriole legs and iron underframing to withstand high temperatures from open flames.

Authentic Georgian footmen typically exhibit hand-cast brass components, hand-riveted construction, and slight variations in symmetry. Wear patterns on the underside, oxidation around joints, and original carrying handles are key markers of period production.

A brass footman can be styled on a fireplace hearth, within an empty fireplace alcove, or as a low plant stand in a living space. Its metallic finish complements natural stone, brick, and dark timber flooring.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth. To preserve historical patination, avoid harsh chemical abrasive cleaners, opting instead for gentle brass polishes applied sparingly when necessary.
