Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tunbridge Ware is a form of decoratively inlaid woodwork, primarily produced in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, during the 18th and 19th centuries. It features intricate mosaic patterns created from small, end-grain strips of variously coloured natural woods glued together and sliced into thin veneers.

Craftsmen utilised diverse natural hardwoods such as boxwood, holly, yew, cherry, walnut, and sycamore to achieve varied shades without artificial dyes. The construction relied on precise geometric assembly of square wood tesserae into blocks before being sliced and applied to a solid timber substrate.

Authentic pieces display detailed mosaic designs formed of individual square wood tesserae rather than printed or painted patterns. Authentic items showcase natural wood grain variations, age-appropriate patination, original metal fittings, and frequently feature floral sprays, geometric borders, or depictions of Kentish landmarks.

Position the item on a dressing table, mantelpiece, or console table as a functional container for small items. Combining detailed traditional timber inlay with contemporary glass or minimalist decor highlights the contrast in surface texture and historical craft.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight, central heating sources, and fluctuating humidity, which can cause timber movement and veneer lift. Clean gently using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear microcrystalline wax sparingly to protect the polished finish.
