Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A serpentine chest features a subtle wave-like curve across the front face, with a convex centre flanked by concave ends. Originating in the 18th century Georgian era, this design demonstrated high craftsmanship and refined proportion.

These chests are typically crafted from solid mahogany or oak frameworks faced with figured flame mahogany veneers. Drawer linings often feature oak or pine, fitted with cast brass oval or swan-neck handles and hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut dovetail joinery, hand-planed drawer bottoms with grain running crosswise, and natural age-related wear to the timber and brassware. Additionally, the underside and back panels should show original tool marks and uneven timber thickness rather than modern machine cuts.

Position the chest as a focal piece in a hallway or bedroom, balancing its dark wood tone against neutral wall paints such as soft off-white or muted green. Layer the top surface with contemporary ceramics, a modern table lamp, or framed artwork to blend historic elegance with modern design.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Avoid placing the chest near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber warping and finish bleaching.
