Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced in Britain during the mid-to-late eighteenth century, the Pembroke table was designed as a versatile occasional table with drop leaves. Named traditionally after the Countess of Pembroke who first commissioned the form, it was intended for dining, tea service, or bedside use in Georgian homes.

High-quality Cuban or West Indian mahogany was the primary wood used for these tables due to its dense grain and rich tone. Secondary woods like pine or oak were used for drawer linings, while decorative features often incorporated satinwood marquetry inlays and cast brass handles.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, hand-sawn secondary timber linings, and period-correct brass hardware. Look for natural oxidation on the undersides of the leaves and hand-carved details such as fretwork corner brackets or turned legs.

Due to its compact footprint and drop-leaf versatility, a Pembroke table functions effectively as a side table flanking a modern sofa, a bedside table, or an entryway console. Extending one or both leaves allows the table to accommodate lamps, books, or decorative displays.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the wood finish. Position the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, or sudden humidity changes to prevent the timber from warping or splitting.
