Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

First introduced in the mid-eighteenth century, the Pembroke table was designed as a lightweight, portable table for light meals, writing, or bedside use. Named according to tradition after the Countess of Pembroke, it became a staple of Georgian homes due to its drop-leaf design, which saved space when folded.

Eighteenth-century examples typically utilise solid mahogany or satinwood veneers, complemented by delicate stringing or marquetry inlays. Construction features wooden rule joints for the drop leaves, hand-dovetailed drawer linings, and slender square tapered or turned legs supported by small brass castors.

Authentic period pieces show signs of hand craftsmanship, such as irregular dovetail joints inside the drawer and hand-cut timber underside. Check for authentic wear patterns around the fly-rail supports, original brass handles, and age-related patination on the mahogany timber.

Because of its compact scale and adjustable surface area, a Pembroke table functions effectively as an end table beside a sofa, a hallway accent piece, or a bedside table. The leaves can remain dropped for daily space efficiency and raised when additional surface area is required.

Maintain the wood finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, or damp conditions to prevent timber warping and veneer lifting.
