Chiparus – The Master of Art Deco
Demetre Chiparus (1886-1947) was a prolific Romanian sculptor who moved to Paris in 1912 and married Julienne Lullier in 1925 to become naturalised in France, where he lived the rest of his life. He was renowned for his exquisite Art Deco sculptures which were purely decorative but avidly sought after by art connoisseurs. His work epitomized the opulence and elegance of the Roaring Twenties, an era marked by cultural and artistic transformation and was first exhibited in the Salon of 1914.
