Antique Pine Corner Cupboard

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Pinefinders
Description

For sale is a charming vintage pine corner cupboard dating back to around 1910. It features a convenient drawer at the top and a cupboard door below, opening from left to right, revealing ample shelving inside. Despite its age, this piece is in remarkable condition, currently sporting a natural bare wood finish.

It's available for purchase in its current state for £560, or for £627 if you prefer it waxed. Although the drawer traditionally requires a key for opening, we can install knobs upon request.

Inside, you'll find two full-depth shelves and a distinctive 'gallery shelf' at the top (see photos). For your convenience, I'll ensure the plinth at the bottom is securely fixed before your collection if you opt to buy it as is.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A traditional pine corner cabinet is a specialised storage unit designed with an angled rear profile to fit into ninety-degree wall corners. Popular throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these cabinets provided practical storage while utilising often-neglected floor space in country homes.

These cupboards were typically constructed using solid pine timber joined with traditional hand-cut dovetails or mortise and tenon joints. Hardware often included wrought iron or brass hinges, escutcheons, and simple interior wooden shelving.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of traditional craftsmanship, such as hand-sawn wood marks, hand-carved dovetail joints, original iron or brass lock mechanisms, and historic wear patterns on the base and interior surfaces.

A natural pine corner cupboard can be integrated into modern spaces by pairing it with neutral wall palettes, textured linen fabrics, and minimalist ceramic accessories to contrast the warm timber grain.

Maintain pine furniture by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax paste once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and extreme humidity changes to prevent timber movement.
