A crystal regulator is a style of horological mantel clock originating in France during the late 19th century, characterised by four bevelled glass sides and a visible pendulum mechanism within a gilded brass or bronze frame.

These clocks typically feature cast gilt brass or bronze architectural frames, thick bevelled glass panels, enamelled dials, and decorative polychrome champleve enamel detailing alongside a pendulum structure.

Authentic 19th-century French examples generally display movement maker stamps on the back plate, heavy bevelled glass panels without tinting, precise champleve enamel work, and a twin-vial pendulum design.

Position the clock centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard top, or formal hallway console table, pairing it with neutral backgrounds to accentuate the polished metallic finish and intricate enamel work.

Clean the glass panels using a soft microfibre cloth slightly moistened with water, avoiding chemical solvents that could strip protective gilding, lacquer, or delicate enamel work on the brass case.
