Circa 1920.

Pirot kilims are also known as Sarkoy or Sharkoy, they originate from the town of Pirot in south-eastern Serbia; where they have been made since the middle ages. The popular design style has spread across the Balkan region and into western Turkey. These are outstanding furnishing kilims with a very unique style in a wide range of designs and colours.

This example has a traditional repeat design red ground, the colour is softer at the top end and is darker at the lower end, this is known as 'abrash' it is a variation in colour caused by a change in dye lots. The kilim is framed by an ivory ground border with a traditional design in pastel colours.

Very good condition with slight wear. Suitable for normal domestic use.

Hand washed and ready for use.
