Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in early nineteenth-century Britain, Regency reading tables are compact occasional tables designed specifically for study and literature. They feature classical proportions, fine wood veneers such as mahogany, leather inset surfaces, and often adjustable tops or drawers mounted on a central pedestal base.

These tables were primarily constructed from dense hardwoods like solid mahogany or rosewood. Secondary woods included oak or pine for internal drawer linings, while surface tops were often inlaid with blind-tooled leather and trimmed with solid brass hardware and castors.

Authentic Regency examples display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, hand-carved fluting or acanthus leaf details on the pedestal, and original brass cup castors. The underside of the timber will show uneven hand-sawn marks and natural age-related oxidisation rather than uniform modern machine cuts.

Position the table alongside a tailored armchair to create a functional reading corner, or place it in a study to house books and table lighting. The rich wood tones and structured silhouette anchor contemporary seating areas while adding historical texture.

Maintain the mahogany structure by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying beeswax along the grain once or twice a year. Keep the leather surface conditioned with specialized leather cream, and protect the piece from direct sunlight and harsh radiator heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
