An early 19thC porcelain desk top inkwell c1840. This remarkable porcelain piece, surely English made, has an oblong shape with four scalloped edges, with a fixed porcelain well, within which is a separate removable lidded inkwell. The inkwell is glazed in a bright pea green, with inset cartouches of yellow and black landscape and floral scenes. The edges of the base, cartouches and lid are gilded, the gilding being in excellent condition, no wear or fading. The whole is in remarkable excellent condition for its age, no hairlines, cracks or chips.
