Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Seventeenth-century Baroque religious sculptures are recognised for their dramatic drapery, emotional intensity, and dynamic, naturalistic figures. Commissioned for chapels, churches, and private devotion across Continental Europe, these works utilised sacred iconography, such as saint attributes and animals, to convey complex theological stories.

Figures from this era were typically cast in bronze or lead using the lost-wax technique, followed by extensive hand-chasing to refine fine surface details. Many examples featured parcel-gilding or applied patinas and were set atop carved or painted timber bases to enhance visual depth.

Authentic period bronzes display characteristic casting features, such as hand-tooling markings, heavy core weights, and organic wear patterns consistent with multi-century handling. Modern reproductions often show uniform machine finishing, unnatural chemical patinas, or modern metal alloys.

An antique metal sculpture functions effectively as a focal point on a dark timber sideboard, within a curated bookshelf display, or on a fireplace mantelpiece. Placing the dark bronze against neutral plaster or deep wall colours such as navy or forest green provides high visual contrast.

Dust the figure gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush to prevent lifting fragile leaf gilding. Avoid chemical solvents or water; a light coat of microcrystalline wax applied gently with a lint-free cloth protects the underlying metal surface from oxidisation.
