Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early Victorian drawing room chairs typically feature balloon or spoon back profiles, carved walnut or mahogany frames, and cabriole legs. Designed primarily for parlours and drawing rooms, these side chairs often display Rococo Revival motifs including scrollwork and botanical carvings.

Solid walnut or mahogany forms the structural frame, finished with clear French polish or wax. The seat construction traditionally incorporates steel coil springs, webbed supports, horsehair padding, and outer coverings of silk damask, brocade, or velvet fabric.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved decorative motifs along the crest rail and knee joints, period mortise and tenon construction underneath the seat frame, and original brass or ceramic castors attached to the front legs.

A Victorian side chair functions effectively as an accent piece in a dressing room, hallway, or reading nook. Its detailed silhouette provides visual contrast when set against clean-lined contemporary architecture or neutral backdrop walls.

Dust the timber frame using a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax periodically to maintain the timber finish. Clean woven damask upholstery with a soft vacuum attachment, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to avoid fabric degradation.
