Antique Early 19th Century Carved Oak Mule Chest C.1820

£645    $861    €766
A boldly carved Georgian oak mule chest, dating to the early 19th century and heavily influenced by 17th-century design.

The lid opens to reveal a spacious interior fitted with a candle box, above two large drawers lined in green baize. These drawers lock via concealed pegs within the coffer section above — an ingenious and quite uncommon feature.

The front, sides and top are richly hand-carved with geometric and floral decoration, finished in a striking dark stain and raised on a deeply moulded plinth with shaped feet.

With a real visual presence and quiet grandeur, it would work well as a statement storage chest in a hallway, living room or at the foot of a bed.

Presented in very good antique condition with a warm aged patina and light surface wear. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home.

English, circa 1820.
