An Italian hand carved wood chess set in the form of Moors and Crusaders.
Each piece is very intricately carved with great detail, painted and heavily gilded.
The chess board is formed by placing the four boxes together in a square. The boxes themselves are painted and gilded.
The set dates to around 1900 and is in very good condition commensurate with age. The chess pieces are in very good condition with no chips or losses.
This is a beautiful and elaborate set and is both practical for playing chess and an impressive addition to any room.
The board when assembled measures 53cm square. The king is 18cm tall and the queen is 17cm tall
