Antique Ushak Carpet

1900 - 1920
Description

An early 20th century antique Ushak carpet, using vary red/pink tones, greens and muted pale blues for the border colour. A fantastic open pattern with geometric motifs and green leaf design, making these a beautiful decorative carpet to place in a variety of rooms.

There are lower areas of pile in the border and scattered in the main field, with some old restoration visible, the structure is strong and there is still lots of wool pile present on the majority of this 100 year old Ushak.  The price reflects the condition and it is a wonderful large antique carpet still in good useable order, supplied with our strong underlay.  A great price for a lovely piece.

Ushak's were woven in Western Anatolia which was one of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire.  Their designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and use soft natural dyes. The faded green border colour works so well with the soft reds and muted golden tones.
