Skippings Fine Arts has dated this Art Deco Portrait Drawing to the 1930s.
The artist was born in Vigo in Galicia as the son of a wealthy businessman: his father owned an island! While his family was probably not too happy with Martin's career choice, young Martin managed to enter the San Fernando School of Fine Arts, where he studied until 1927.
Over time, it became clear that he had a special gift for drawing and etching. He received a scholarship to travel and work in Italy, and then settled in Paris in 1929.

He participated in the Parisian Salons d'Automne from 1931 to 1934, the Tuileries Salons of 1932 and 1933 and in the 4th Exposition of the Artistes Independents of 1933. In 1932 he also showed landscapes from Montrouge at the Carmine Gallery, while in 1933 Etchegaray had one man shows at the Parisian galleries Mona Lisa and Gerbo.
Our drawing is signed and situated Paris at the lower right. Measuring 40.5 x 29.5 cm at sight, the overall framed size is 54 x 42 cm
