An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver communion chalice and paten; an addition to our Victorian religious silver collection
This exceptional two piece antique Victorian sterling silver communion set consists of a chalice and paten/diskos.
The Victorian silver chalice has a circular rounded form onto a knopped pedestal and spreading hexafoil shaped foot.
The body of this sterling silver communion cup is encircled with impressive flat engraved decoration incorporating the Latin biblical scripture ''Calicem salutaris accipiam et nomen Domini invocabo'' - I will take the chalice of salvation; and I will call upon the name of the Lord (Psalm 115 verse 4).
The panelled pedestal is embellished with a flat engraved decorated knop, to a swept hexafoil foot ornamented with flat engraved stylised interlacing leaf designs on a matte background.
The paten has a circular form to a plain circular base; this paten can also be used to form a cover.
The circular well of the diskos/paten is ornamented with a stylised illustration of Jesus Christ wearing a crown of thorns, amidst a sun burst design.
The paten is encompassed with an impressive flat engraved leaf decorated border.
The interior of the chalice and surface of the paten bear the original gilding; the gilding has worn with age in a sympathetic fashion.
This exceptional Victorian silver communion set is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire.
