A tilt-top piecrust table is an eighteenth-century design featuring a circular top with a raised, scalloped edge resembling a pie crust. The tabletop is attached to a central turned pedestal via a brass catch mechanism, allowing it to tilt vertically for compact storage along a wall when not in use.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense hardwoods such as Cuban or West Indian mahogany, as well as walnut and oak. The tilt-top mechanism typically incorporates brass latches or iron strap hinges attached to a solid timber block at the top of the column.

Authentic period examples feature hand-carved piecrust moulding made from a single piece of timber rather than applied strips, unevenness in hand-turned columns, and original brass snap latches. The underside of the top should show natural oxidation and saw marks consistent with hand tools of the period.
