The flame mahogany veneered trunk with ebony strung edge and inset mercury action thermometer to the centre with matching silvered scale and bowed glass. Urn shaped cistern cover to the base with ebonised finish and canted corners set either side. Bears the makers name to the scale, M Gardner, Glasgow, Opticians (indicating a date of manufacture c.1820-22) Fully serviced and working, the case in superb original condition with a rich patina. Measures 40" long x 2.5" wide at the trunk x 4" wide at the pediment x 2" deep.
