Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian tilt-top table features a circular or rectangular top attached to a central pedestal via a hinged mechanism, allowing the top to tilt vertically when not in use. Popularised in 18th-century Britain, these functional pieces were designed to be stored against walls to conserve space in living rooms and parlours.

These tables were predominantly crafted from solid dense Cuban or Honduras mahogany, supported by a central turned pedestal resting on a three-legged cabriole tripod base. Many feature a birdcage action mechanism beneath the top, allowing the surface to both rotate and tilt via wooden pegs and hinges.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-cut dovetails on the birdcage block, original hand-forged iron latches or brass catch mechanisms, and hand-planed underside surfaces showing tool marks. The feet typically feature hand-carved pad or claw-and-ball profiles attached to the central pillar with hand-cut iron straps underneath.

Position the table in an empty corner, beside an armchair, or in a reading nook to serve as an occasional drinks table or book stand. When tilted vertically, the polished timber top forms a decorative panel against modern neutral walls or contemporary artwork.

Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent the timber from drying out or fading. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the direction of the grain, and ensure the tilt catch mechanism remains clean without forcing the hinge.
