Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in rural Britain during the late 17th and 18th centuries, the Welsh dresser was developed as a multi-functional piece of furniture for farmhouse kitchens and dining areas. The base provided secure storage for household linens and cutlery, while the open upper rack allowed families to display ceramic plates, pewter, and tableware.

Traditional dressers were constructed primarily from native hardwoods such as oak, elm, or pine, using mortise and tenon joinery. Back panels were often hand-planed, and decorative elements included relief carving, field panels, and turned wooden knobs or brass teardrop handles.

Authentic period dressers display signs of age such as hand-cut dovetail joints, uneven hand-planed surfaces on rear boards, and natural shrinkage across wide timber panels. Surface wear should align with historic usage, particularly around handles, drawer runners, and base feet.

Dark carved dressers serve as anchor pieces in dining rooms, wide hallways, or open-plan kitchens. Contemporary interior designers often balance their substantial visual weight by pairing them with neutral wall colours, minimalist ceramics, or modern artwork.

Preserve antique carved oak by dusting regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain. Avoid chemical sprays, excessive water, and direct placement near heat sources or radiators to prevent timber splitting.
